Pacific Northwest_Berlin Development

My name is Wendy Waxman Kern, and I am a certified Behavioural and Communications Trainer and a Systemic Business Coach.

I know that life does not always follow a straight path, and that detours and change are inevitable. Sometimes we seek change, and sometimes it finds us.

At home in Berlin, Germany, and the Pacific Northwest and the mother of two children, I connect people, ideas, and places. I am accustomed to switching perspectives and reframing issues to increase understanding and find solutions. I am respectfully curious when working with my clients, eager to hear their perspective while drawing on a wide range of methods and didactic tools to help them achieve their development goals. Since 2010, I have been doing this work internationally in corporate, non-profit, and educational settings. I am passionate about getting involved at a community level and draw on experience as a volunteer both in the U.S. and in Berlin.

My origin

Born in California, my German connection goes back to when I was 15 and an exchange student. In 2000, I earned a double major in English and German from California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, and in 2002, an M.A. in Political Science, Transatlantic Relations, from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, which included studies at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.

My path

Leading up to my work as a behavioral and communications trainer and systemic business coach, I held various roles in international cultural exchange organizations – a work that connected people across language and culture. This experiential, development-focused work lead me to artop Institut at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, where I completed a systemic Behavioral and Communications Training certification program in 2010.

I began working as an independent trainer, developing and delivering trainings on communication and leadership topics, conducting peer consultations, and assessing and coaching fellow trainers. In 2014, I completed the Systemic Business Coach certification program through Steinbeis Hochschule and Kröber Kommunikation, before returning with my family to the Pacific Northwest for the next 10 years. While there, I held leadership positions in local and national community and youth development organizations, while also serving as a volunteer on non-profit and foundation boards.
